Plugins are small pieces of code that add to the functionality of WordPress.
Bookano comes preinstalled with most of the plugins that you need but there’s one that you need to add now and maybe one or more once your site is ready to go live.
If you haven’t add a plugin before, this very short video shows the process.
Watch this before adding the plugin that I recommend
The first plugin to install is Imagify.
This plugin optimizes your images. The images and icons that come with Bookano are pre-optimized but Imagify will optimize images as you add them.
If you have a big blog on your site you may want to think about a subscription but the free version will do for now.
As per the first part of the video, in the WordPress dashboard, go to plugins, add new and search for Imagify.
Then click install, then activate.
Once activated, go to the settings page and you will see the following screen
Click the Create An API key, you will need to create an account (don’t worry, it’s free).
Once you have the API key, paste it into the box and click the Save Changes button.
Once you have done that you will have access to the settings page.
You can find this by going to the main dashboard, plugins, installed plugins, Imagify, settings.
Select the Agressive option and make sure that the Auto-optimise images on upload and Backup original images checkboxes are ticked (see image below)
Then scroll down to the Optimization section and check the boxes Create WebP versions of images and Display images in WebP format on the site (see image below).
Then scroll to the bottom of the page and save your changes
